NYC #OpenData Laws Oversight Hearing (Promoted Event)

***FYI - BetaNYC is not hosting this event. Event details can change at a moments notice. Please check the NYC Council's Website for the latest hearing information.***

We started as a "meetup" helping explore ideas of openness. To that extent, we joined the New York City Transparency Working Group to advocate for more open government. Not only did we help get the first municipal open data law passed, we've been able to amend and strengthen those laws.

Every year, the City Council hosts an oversight hearing calling on the public to submit their ideas on how to improve the City's open data practice. Every year, we encourage the city's open data and civic technology community to give testimony on their user experiences.

Our testimony and advocacy has added SEVEN new laws improving the City's open data practice.

If you can't attend in person, you can watch via the Council's live stream at < http://legistar.council.nyc.gov/webcasts/ >.

The hearing will be located across the street from City Hall at 250 Broadway, 14th Floor hearing room.

You will have to pass through a security checkpoint. No weapons or tools into the building.

If you plan on testifying, please plan on summarizing your ideas into three to four mins. If preparing a longer written statement, please plan on bring no less than 20 copies.

Note, you will find the Council Members, their staff, City Hall staff, and fellow advocates happy to see you. Honestly, this is one of those enjoyable civic moments.
