What we’re about
How do you do Jewish? Are you a secular Jew who wants to share Jewish culture and identity with your family? Do you celebrate Jewish holidays and want to know more about how to celebrate them without the supernatural underpinnings?
Beth Ami provides a place where secular Jews can find a comfortable home. We appeal to those who respect and love our Jewish heritage and want to affiliate with others with similar viewpoints. We are Jews who want Jewish studies for our children and ourselves, who want to observe Jewish holidays, appreciate Jewish culture, and express a connection with the Jewish people and Israel in a non-theistic setting.
Beth Ami is a warm, welcoming community that gathers to deepen our connections to each other as well as embrace our shared Humanistic Jewish identity. We celebrate major holidays, Shabbat/Havdalah, and life cycle events, including baby namings, bar/bat mitzvahs, weddings and memorial services. For more information visit bethami.com.

- A Meaningful Humanistic Yom KippurBoulder Public Library - Meadows Branch, Boulder, CO
Beth Ami and other Humanistic Jewish groups consider Yom Kippur the culmination of the self-analysis initiated on Rosh Hashanah. The holiday offers the opportunity to ask forgiveness from ourselves and those we have wronged, and to vow to be active, involved, caring people in the coming year. It is also a time for remembrance while we mindfully listening to Kol Nidre, performed by the cellist Anne Brennand. We will say a Humanistic Kaddish as a memorial and hear the call of the shofar one last time.
Some Humanistic Jews fast on Yom Kippur, some do not. For some, this connects them with the Jewish community. For others, it raises their consciousness about world hunger. Whatever you choose to do, we hope you come to our event to consider your humanness and all our human fallibility. Then finish feeling a sense of hope and commitment for the coming year.
If anyone would like to "break-the-fast" as a group we can gather and discuss a location after the service.
Click the attend button so we know to expect you. There is no fee for this event, but donations are always welcome. Twenty dollars is the traditional amount but greater or smaller donations are equally appreciated. We can not accept credit cards.
Please also consider bringing a donation of non-perishable food which will be delivered to Community Food Share.

- Shabbat + JADE (Jewish Aid in Dying)Boulder Public Library - Main Branch, Boulder, CO
What happens at a Jewish funeral, are people buried, cremated...composted? What are the traditions and decisions that can guide us in making choices for ourselves and our loved ones. Decisions needed in the final stages of life can bring up difficult ethical and legal questions.
Join us for a brief humanistic Shabbat and discussion with Evie Cohen from JADE (Jewish Aid in Dying) to learn about the array of options available in planning for yourself or others.
