Beyond Hello World - GSM Authenticator

Details
Hello Makers,
We will attempt something slightly different this month. I have had an idea for a 2-factor authenticator for a little while now and I want to take a crack at getting it made. This project is a great way to get into GSM(2G (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM)) which is used a lot in IoT projects. We will also dive into the AT Command Set (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorola_phone_AT_commands), which is one of the main ways to control everything from dial up modems and bluetooth modules, to Xbees, and how to parse (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parsing) the data that comes through.
This projects uses the Adafruit Feather GSM FONA variant (https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-feather-32u4-fona/overview).

This is a great platform for more advanced projects and it a has a really small footprint. There area many different varieties (https://www.adafruit.com/feather). This, plus a screen (https://www.adafruit.com/products/2900), an antenna (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1991), and maybe a wrist band (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B23OUBY/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2SVLVGCA7EHV3&coliid=I2T8XD1YENI10W&psc=1) and you have all the pieces needed to get 2-factor code through a side channel that you control.
We will start with a short demo of this project. Then there will be open project time where you can work on any project you want. So come with your projects, ideas, and questions and take then next step with GSM and AT commands or anything else you are working on.
See you there!
