This 1996 movie stars Nathan Lane, Robin Williams, Gene Hackman, and Dianne Wiest. In the movie, a gay cabaret owner and his drag queen companion agree to put up a false straight front so that their son can introduce them to his fiancée's right-wing moralistic parents.
This is an American remake of "La Cage aux Folles".
The bulk of the video is a review and analysis of the social impact of "The Birdcage" in the context of the middle of the 1990s. I think he is right; the movie is much more groundbreaking than we usually give it credit for.
He also introduces and discusses the contact hypothesis, the social theory that people will be less bigoted against groups of people that are in their daily lives.
