Learn one of the fundamental techniques in modern biology with this hands-on, two-hour short course on genetic transformation of bacterial cells. Designed for curious beginners, this course introduces the core principles of genetic engineering, including how plasmids are used to carry and express new genes in bacteria. Participants will gain real, practical experience transforming E. coli cells—one of the most widely used model organisms in research and biotechnology—while learning why bacteria transformation is a fundamental technique across biotechnology with applications from discovering new medicines to creating tastier food and beverages.

$40 per participant, and we'll handle payment for the class at the lab (Venmo or cash).

All participants under the age of 18 need to have a parent/guardian present with them at the lab during the class. This parent/guardian doesn't need to pay if they don't want to be a participant, but we encourage you to both sign up and learn together!
