π§ͺ The Science of Connection: A Seattle Experiment
Details
What's the optimal dose of connection for your wellbeing? Science has answers, and most of us are under-dosed. We're changing that.
π "Scientific studies have told us again and again: human beings need nutrition, we need exercise, we need purpose, and we need each other." - Waldinger & Schulz, directors of Harvard's 85-year study of what makes a good life. The headline finding: the quality of your relationships is the most powerful predictor of health and happiness they've found. How do we apply that?
𧬠We track sleep, nutrition, training, and more. Connection belongs on the list, and it may be the most underrated protocol of them all.
βοΈ Here's the afternoon: a short talk on the science, including the surprising number of hours it takes to make a friend, and what a healthy weekly dose looks like. Then a guided discussion and small groups to discuss how to better get your dose of connection, you might make some new friends along the way.
π Recommended reading, not required: The Good Life by Robert Waldinger and Marc Schulz. A good video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IStsehNAOL8
π£οΈ What people say about these conversations: "I was amazed by how quickly everyone opened up. These aren't your typical surface-level networking conversations." Go at whatever pace feels right; nobody's counting.
π€ Bring a health-curious friend. A room with one familiar face is easier to open up in, and you'll have someone to debrief with after. (It's also the most helpful way to grow this community.)
π π π Event is a collaboration with the Seattle Powergroup; more people are signed up! You can see more at seattlepowergroup.com.
β° Sunday, October 4, 1:00 PM at Espresso Vivace, South Lake Union. Look for the group in the back room.
