Sunday, Oct. 19, 8am: Pinyon-Juniper Bird Walk in the Flagstaff Area. Alternate date is a go! Pinyon Jays have been seen at the location that you will be guided to. Join experts from Northern Arizona Audubon Society to learn how to conduct Pinyon Jay surveys. No experience necessary, but RSVP required, as the location depends on where Pinyon Jays have been sighted recently.

Leaders: Grant Pegram, Harrison Jones and Andrew Haverdink.

The group will meet at the Harkins Theatre parking lot at 8:00 am. We will combine cars and caravan from there. If the jays are found early, the time for the trip may be shorter.

Curious about doing surveys but didn't make the webinar? No Problem! Follow the instructions below, and reach out with questions! It is HIGHLY recommended that you get the app working before you attend. Also, it takes a few days for you to be added to the "_ASW" group on the app (Audubon Southwest). So sign up ASAP!

  1. Sign up for the community science data hub HERE, and create a username with the ending “_ASW” (This stands for Audubon Southwest and tags you to be added to our group). Note: we add people manually, so please allow 1-2 business days. You will NOT be notified. While you are waiting, check out the training materials available on the hub site.
  2. Add Esri’s Survey 123 app on your phone (it’s free and available from your favorite app store)
  3. Log in to the app using your data hub username and password. Our data intake form will auto-magically appear for you to use. Cool, huh?
  4. Note that you can survey wherever you like in Pinyon-Juniper habitat, for as little as 20 minutes in order verify absence

Thanks for your interest in Pinyon Jays. Happy fall & all the best—the Audubon SW Conservation Team.
