Join us for an early spring bird walk at Whitaker Ponds Nature Park with Rose City Bird Collective, led by Susan. This compact northeast Portland wetland offers excellent opportunities to observe a wide variety of birds in a relatively small and accessible area. Birders of all experience levels are welcome.

Whitaker Ponds features a mix of open water, pond edges, and shrubby habitat that attracts a wide diversity of species. We’ll follow an easy loop at a gentle pace, stopping often to observe waterfowl, songbirds, and overhead activity.

We’ll likely see or hear around 20 to 35 species during the walk, depending on conditions.

Accessibility & Trail Conditions
Surface: Paved sidewalks near entrance; mostly unpaved dirt and gravel trails around ponds
Grade: Generally flat
Expect: Potential muddy sections, especially after rain
Crowds/noise: Generally quiet with occasional nearby urban noise
Shade/sun: Mix of open areas and some shaded sections
Seating: Gazebo and limited seating areas available
Restrooms: Porta-potty available on-site

Weather + What to Wear
Early April weather can be cool and damp, with a chance of rain and soft ground conditions.
Dress in layers and wear comfortable, waterproof or water-resistant shoes. Be prepared for muddy trails and changing temperatures.
