Join us for an early spring bird walk at Chehalem Ridge Nature Park with Rose City Bird Collective, led by Lauren and Mel. We’ll explore this beautiful ridge-top park at a relaxed pace, with plenty of stops to listen, look, and bird together in open meadows, young forest, and oak habitat.

What to Expect

  • Birding is for everyone, and everyone is invited. We work to make our walks welcoming, beginner-friendly, and inclusive.
  • This is a social, supportive walk for birders of all experience levels, with time for questions, shared sightings, and learning together.
  • Expect a slow to moderate pace on wide gravel trails with gentle rolling hills, some moderate elevation change, and frequent stops for viewing and identification.

Chehalem Ridge offers open views, meadow edges, shrubby areas, and young forest, making it a great place to practice spotting birds by shape, movement, and sound. We’ll keep the route flexible, but plan on an easygoing spring walk with regular pauses and roughly a couple of miles of birding.

Weather + What to Wear
Early spring on the ridge can mean cool mornings, a bit of wind, and anything from sunbreaks to light showers. Conditions can change quickly, especially in exposed areas.
Please wear layers and sturdy walking shoes or trail shoes. Sun and wind protection are helpful here, and a light rain layer is always a good idea.

Safety & Responsibility
This is an outdoor community walk on public trails. Conditions may be muddy, uneven, or slippery depending on weather. Please use your best judgment, stay within your comfort level, and help us keep the group together. By attending, you agree to take responsibility for your own safety and personal belongings.
All ages are welcome—minors must stay with a parent/guardian at all times.
We’d love to have you join us—whether it’s your first bird walk or your millionth!
