OAKS BOTTOM | Beginner Birding w/ Rose City Bird Collective
Details
Join Nicole and the Peepers for a lovely early summer bird walk at Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge in southeast Portland. This expansive wetland complex along the Willamette River features a rich mosaic of open water, emergent marsh, wet meadow, and riparian woodland, making it one of the best urban birding spots in the region throughout the year.
What to Expect
• We believe birding is for everyone, thus this is a beginner-friendly walk with bird ID support and low stakes.
• A relaxed, slow pace with frequent stops and time for questions.
• A welcoming, all-ages environment focused on connection, curiosity, and shared joy.
We'll explore the refuge's trails and viewing areas looking for a variety of wetland and woodland birds. Early June is an exciting time at Oaks Bottom, with nesting birds, active marsh species, and plenty of opportunities to observe bird behavior.
