Join Lauren & Mel for a relaxed fall morning bird walk around the ponds and green spaces near Brookwood Library in Hillsboro. Backed by the Dawson Creek area, the library sits beside ponds, landscaped vegetation, and nearby wetland habitat that can attract a surprisingly diverse mix of birds in an otherwise developed part of the city

By mid-October, the bird community is shifting toward fall and winter residents. Ducks and other waterbirds become more noticeable around the ponds, while sparrows, kinglets, chickadees, woodpeckers, and other songbirds move through the surrounding trees and shrubs. Raptors and herons may also be seen overhead or near the water as migration winds down and wintering birds continue to arrive.

This beginner-friendly walk will move at an easy pace with frequent stops to observe birds, practice identification, and talk about how even small urban ponds and landscaped green spaces can provide valuable habitat during the fall migration and wintering season.
