Welcome to the Birmingham Japanese Language & Culture

Birmingham Japanese Language & Culture (BJLC) is a friendly community bringing together Japanese people, Japanese-language learners and anyone with a genuine interest in Japan.
Our aim is to create more than a simple language-exchange group. We want to build a welcoming community where people can meet regularly, experience different cultures, enjoy good food and form genuine friendships in Birmingham.

What we'll be doing

🗣️ Language meetups
Relaxed Japanese and English language exchanges where native and non-native speakers can practise through real conversation.
You can join the conversation, listen to others or simply sit with us and study independently with your nose in a language book.
These sessions will be divided into two groups:

• 🗣️ Beginners Group
• 🗣️ Intermediate Plus Group

🎎 Cultural meetups
Activities inspired by Japanese and British culture, including art, films, karaoke nights, festivals, traditions, exhibitions and workshops.

🍜 Food meetups
Restaurant visits, Japanese food experiences, casual meals and opportunities to discover new places together.

✈️ Travel and days out
Local day trips, travel-themed events and the possibility of future group trips.
These events will also be a great opportunity to exchange travel advice and discover whether your future plans overlap with someone else's. Perhaps you'll even end up sharing a beer／ビール together in Tokyo during Golden Week!

Who can join?

Everyone is welcome, including:

• Complete beginners and experienced Japanese learners
• Japanese people who want to practise English and meet local people
• People who have lived in or travelled to Japan
• Anyone interested in Japanese language, food, travel or culture

You do not need to speak Japanese before attending. Our events are designed to be friendly, relaxed and accessible to people at different language levels.
Whether you want to improve your Japanese, practise your English, experience another culture or simply meet interesting people, we would love you to join us.

Birmingham Japanese Language & Culture（BJLC）は、日本語を勉強している方、英語を練習したい日本人の方、そして日本に興味がある方をつなぐ、バーミンガムの交流コミュニティです。
私たちは、単なる言語交換だけではなく、定期的に集まり、さまざまな文化を体験し、おいしい食事を楽しみながら、自然な友情やつながりを築ける場所を目指しています。

活動内容

🗣️ 言語交流会
日本語と英語を、リラックスした雰囲気の中で実際の会話を通して練習します。
積極的に会話に参加するのはもちろん、ほかの人の会話を聞いたり、同じ場所で自分の教材を使って勉強したりするだけでも大丈夫です。
言語交流会は、次の二つのグループに分かれて行います。
• 🗣️ 初心者グループ
• 🗣️ 中級以上グループ

🎎 文化交流イベント
日本とイギリスのアート、映画、カラオケ、祭り、伝統、展示会、ワークショップなどを一緒に楽しみます。

🍜 食事会
レストラン巡り、日本食体験、気軽な食事会などを通して、新しいお店や料理を一緒に発見します。

✈️ 旅行・日帰りイベント
近郊への日帰りのお出かけ、旅行をテーマにした交流会、将来的なグループ旅行なども企画していきます。
旅行の情報やアドバイスを交換したり、お互いの旅行予定が重なっているかを確認したりする良い機会にもなるでしょう。もしかすると、ゴールデンウィークの東京で一緒にビールを飲むことになるかもしれません！

参加できる方
以下のような方を歓迎します。
• 日本語を勉強し始めたばかりの方から上級者まで
• 英語を練習しながら、現地の人と交流したい日本人の方
• 日本に住んだことがある方や、旅行したことがある方
• 日本語、日本文化、食、旅行に興味がある方
日本語が全く話せなくても大丈夫です。さまざまなレベルの方が安心して参加できる、親しみやすくリラックスしたイベントを目指しています。
