Canal Walk - Birmingham to Hamstead
Details
Hello, everyone - come and join myself and Jackie for another walk alongside the Birmingham Canal network, enjoying some conversations, nature, history, and hopefully some lovely weather!
The meeting point will again be at the Solomon Cutler pub on Broad Street and will be looking to set off at 12:00 sharp so, if you're a little late, message us and we'll wait around (but not too long!)
The walk will be approximately 12km, heading north along the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal towards Gravelly Hill, then turning west along the Tame Valley Canal towards Hamstead before taking the train back to Birmingham for a celebratory/cheeky beer or two and will take around 3 to 3 1/2 hours (if you don't have a pass, buying a Network Daytripper (£8.90) is a good idea).
Points To Note:
*The tow paths are good quality, though one short stretch is slightly narrow, the route does feature a number of steep hump-back bridges (mostly along the first half) plus a couple of staircases on the second half (including one at the end).
*There is a short stretch (about 100m) under Gravelly Hill that is quite dark, so bringing a torch is useful.
*There are drop out points as we pass close to Aston and Witton Stations, if you need to leave us early.
Be mindful to wear comfortable footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather on the day, and it's a good idea to bring along a bottle of water to quench thirst along the way and keep hydrated (as we won't be passing any shops).
Any questions or extra information needed please feel free to ask in the event chat or send a message.
