bkk UNZINE is an art community that promotes alternative artists to the world with its online magazine, comics and events.

The goal of this meetup is to bring people together around creative events (workshops, drawing meetups, discussions, etc.)

Hi, this is Boris I am the Founder of bkk UNZINE and the organizer of this meetup group
My instagram is @sketchmanboris I'm a Cartoonist, Podcaster, Youtuber who loves movies and comic books. I speak Tamil, English and French and a little bit Spanish.

What better way to start off the work week than to escape to UNZINE 95?
If you’re feeling a need to unwind or get energized, come to our little art oasis tucked away in Soi Sukhumvit 95 (see below for pinned location) and gather with other creatives in a cool, casual atmosphere.

Spend a few hours simply making art, whether you want to create serious masterpieces or just doodle some sketches while enjoying animated discussions about all manner of topics. Not artistically inclined or not in the mood to draw? There’s no judgment here, just good company.

We provide basic supplies, including pencils, markers, paint and of course, paper.

Create Poignant Stories in Comics - Comics Workshop

We have the pleasure to collaborate with Baturu art space to bring you a one of a kind workshop at UNZINE 95.

We’d like to invite you to Create Poignant Stories in Comics by cartoonist Ivan Velez whose career spans 35-years with groundbreaking work in American mainstream and independent comics.

The workshop will focus on how to use social issues, multicultural and gender diversity to create compelling and poignant stories. You’ll create characters of many different shapes and backgrounds and come up with a plan and story structure to propel your comics into people’s hearts.

All art supplies will be provided.
Date: Saturday 22nd of August 2026
Time: 2 to 4pm
Fee: 400 THB for pre-booking
500 THB for walk-ins

What to expect:
1. (10 – 15 minutes) Intro to Ivan Velez and a short visual history of his work and place in the world of progressive comics.
2. (10 minutes) Some demos about character creation and picking the themes for your work. Typical samples will be the use of our myths and legends to tell stories that are worthy of today’s attention.
3. (20 – 30 minutes) Participants will draw and design characters and come up with a basic plot and ‘pitch’ for their stories. The instructor will help with guidance and methods as they try to create.
4. (10 minutes) A short break to stretch and use the bathroom.
5. (15 minutes) A final soft critique of their work and suggestions on how to move forward with their ideas.
6. (5 minutes) A last word where to publish their work (mostly digitally and online, but also actual print).
7. (10 minutes) Q & A
