Black Experiences Philadelphia (BEP)

Take a Hike! Join the crew for a hike along a DIFFERENT ROUTE of the Wissahickon Trail from Valley Green Inn.

Agenda - Take Note!
Park visitors will be able to access parking to the Valley Green Area, as well as via Wises Mill Road off Henry Ave in Roxborough.

8:45 a.m. - Meet and Greet at the bench next to the Valley Green Inn - this is a popular location so give yourself a few minutes to find parking!
9:00 a.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding, don't miss us! I cannot get a signal in this area unfortunately.
10:30 a.m. - End of hike (approximately)

We're going to take a different route along the White Trail to see two features of Fairmount Park: The Statue of Tedyuscung and the Thomas Mill Bridge, the last remaining covered bridge in Philadelphia. This route totals approximately 3.5 miles and will last about 90 minutes.

THIS EVENT IS MONTHLY, BUT IS CONTINGENT UPON THE WEATHER & MAY BE CANCELLED SHOULD THERE BE LIGHTNING

A Fun Challenge
If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done.
This is a great event to talk and get to know other members.

WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive; this is moderate hike. The trails are hilly and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with serious joint problems. There is a road that remains flat and runs for several miles right alongside the creek for those that would rather keep it simple, but our group will be hiking the trails. We will take a couple of breaks, but this is not a leisurely stroll; be prepared to maintain a decent pace.

Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction.

I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm just sayin'...
Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit or trail mix. Bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. You may just need a light jacket, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry). FOR THOSE WITH BIG HAIR: COVER OR TIE YOUR HAIR DOWN...I've had an 8-legged hitchhiker once land on my hair and try to come home with me.

Leave the makeup and cologne at home, because we are going to sweat. We might see a cute jogger, but I promise the chipmunks and deer will NOT be impressed.
You can bring your dog, but please keep them leashed for group members who may be uncomfortable with them.

This is a very popular area that is frequented by people riding bikes, walking dogs, and occasionally riding horses. Just be aware of your surroundings. YOU CAN PARK IN THE UPPER OR LOWER PARKING LOTS OR USE WISES MILL ROAD TO ACCESS THE START LOCATION.

By RSVP'ing, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Black Experience Group Organizers, Co-Organizers, Asst. Organizers, Event Organizers, and/or Host(s) for any injuries, damages, or liabilities incurred before, during, or after event.

Want to get your steps in, but not really the hiking type? Well, join us for this chill Ice Cream walk. We'll walk to a Black-owned ice cream shop, chat along the way, and chill there. You will need to get back home on your own.

We will do an icebreaker to start. We will start walking, and I will have conversation starters folks can use to get to know their fellow BE-ers! Then we will arrive at a Black Owned Ice Cream shop grab our treats and chill.
