We're going to do some exploring while we hike ~6 miles! We'll start at the Paper Trail Bike Cafe, follow the Orange trail to the functional art installation called the Fingerspan Bridge, and over to the Valley Green Inn. We'll then loop back around to the Paper Trail Cafe.

There are some parking spaces near the cafe or on Lincoln Drive, but they are limited. There's usually parking near the Sunoco station at Wissahickon & W. Rittenhouse St. Give yourself an extra 15 minutes to secure parking.

9:50 a.m. - Meet and Greet at the Paper Trail Cafe parking lot - again, this is a popular location so give yourself 15 minutes to find parking and walk to the meetup location!

We're going to take a different route along the ORANGE TRAIL, approximately 6 miles roundtrip. THIS HIKE WILL HAVE HILLY AND ROCKY SECTIONS.

THIS EVENT MAY BE CANCELLED SHOULD THERE BE THUNDER AND LIGHTNING.

Your dog is welcome to join us, but they will need to be leashed the entire time out of respect for those who are uncomfortable around dogs.

A Fun Challenge

If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done. The leaves will be turning and it should be beautiful.

This is a great event to talk to and get to know other members.

WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive; this is moderate hike. The trails are hilly and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with recent surgery or serious joint problems. There is a road that remains flat and runs for several miles right alongside the creek for those that would rather keep it simple, but our group will be hiking the trails. We will take a couple of breaks, but this is not just a leisurely stroll; be prepared to maintain a decent pace.

Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction. I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm kidding.......

Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit or trail mix. Bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. You may just need a light jacket, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry). FOR LADIES: BRAID OR TIE YOUR HAIR DOWN...I've had an 8-legged hitchhiker once land on my hair and try to come home with me.

Leave the makeup and cologne at home, because we are going to sweat. We might see a cute jogger, but I promise the chipmunks and deer will NOT be impressed.

This is a very popular area that is frequented by people riding bikes, walking dogs, and occasionally riding horses. Just be aware of your surroundings.

A lot will be going on in Philly and South Jersey. Whether you need an after-party for Adult Prom or the Roots Picnic, Aldephia is one of the best night spots in South Jersey. Come down to Deptford at 11 pm on Saturday, May 31st, for late-night drinks and dancing.

I’m inviting all the ladies who want to bring their girls for “Girls Night Out”. Couples can also join Jason and Cassandra as we celebrate the “one-year anniversary” of their big marriage proposal.

The cost to enter Adelphia is $15. Expect a DJ playing old school R&B, hip hop, and house. The dress code is UPSCALE ATTIRE. Therefore, no jeans, sneakers, work boots, or athletic gear.

Those attending the Adult Prom are encouraged to attend this late-night event. This is a way to end your Saturday night into Sunday morning on a high note.

ODUNDE!

Let's eat, dance, shop and rejoice in unapologetic Blackness! It's the 50th anniversary of Odunde!! We are celebrating at the largest and oldest African American street festival in the U.S. The event starts at 10am, but the group will meet at 11am and explore the festival. Stick together or do your own thing, but it's always a good time to rejoice in community.

MEETUP LOCATION: The main entrance of the Penn Museum of Archeology & Anthropology is located across from Franklin Field on South Street, has a ramp near the corner of South and 33rd Streets. The group will be leaving the steps at 11:15am sharp but, if you miss the group, you can go straight to the festival at 23rd & South Street to enjoy the festivities.

"ODUNDE was created in 1975 by Lois Fernandez and Ruth Arthur. The festival attracts UP TO 500,000 people annually and is the largest African American street festivals held in the country.The festival, whose concept originates from the Yoruba people of Nigeria, West Africa, celebrates the coming of another year for African Americans and Africanized people around the world. It is an occasion highlighted by a colorful procession from 23rd and South Streets to the Schuylkill River where an offering of fruit and flowers is made to Oshun, the Yoruba goddess of the river. ODUNDE is also known for its authentic African marketplace featuring vendors from around the world selling merchandise from many African nations, the Caribbean and Brazil.

Each year, the second Sunday in June, ODUNDE takes place covering 12 city blocks. ODUNDE will be celebrating its 50th year in the traditional South Philadelphia location near 23rd and South streets. The festival started in 1975 with a $100.00 grant and neighbors from Fernandez's South Philadelphia community. In just two years the ODUNDE Festival exploded. The eclectic mix of vendors, entertainment, and music started to draw people from around and beyond the region, and each year continues to be no different. ODUNDE IS FOR EVERYONE, WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THIS YEAR!!!"

Parking
Parking will be very difficult near the festival, so public transit, cab/car service, or a bike would be ideal. There are parking garages near the Penn Museum and CHOP or you can try to find on-street parking closer to South Street or Pine Street or Grays Ferry Ave...I will be parking in University City and walking to the meetup location.
