Instead of strict reading assignments, the theme is selected, and you bring any fiction work—from novels and plays to short stories and even fiction audiobooks—that fits what speaks to you. Yes, we absolutely love fiction audiobooks! No pressure if you haven’t read the full book.

Not open - Take a Foraging Hike with Lady Danni & Black Everywhere - Philadelphia! ($)Boxer's Trail, Philadelphia, PA
Take a FORAGING Hike with Lady Danni! She is a local foraging legend featured in the NY Times and Phila. Inquirer, and she is going to share her wealth of knowledge regarding the edible and medicinal plants all around us! Afterward, we'll continue along the Boxer's Trail for an easy hike. There is a $15 fee for this hike, as we want to pay Lady Danni for her expertise.
COST: $15 per person, due by Sept. 1st
You must pay to join this hike, no exceptions.

9:45 a.m. - Meet and Greet at the entrance of Boxer's Trail, at Diamond & Reservoir Drive.
There is on-street parking, so give yourself plenty of time to find something!
10:00 a.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!We're going to take a different route to check out The Boxer's Trail, which will take us to see the Discovery Center, Smith Mansion & Playground Fairmount Park, and the Stone Arch Bridge.
THIS EVENT IS CONTINGENT UPON THE WEATHER & MAY BE RESCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER SHOULD THERE BE LIGHTNING.
A Fun Challenge
This is a great event to learn about the edible, drinkable, and medicinal plants that we walk by every day. "There's edible food looking right at you from the cracks in the pavement. You just need to know what to do with it." ~Lady Danni
Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction.
Also suggested is a bottle of water. Bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry).
This is a quiet area that is frequented by the occasional jogger, biker, or hiker. Just be aware of your surroundings.
Park on the street and pay attention to the parking signs.

Serving a meal to the homeless with Black Philadelphia!
Looking for an opportunity to give back? What better way than to serve a meal to some of Philadelphia's citizens experiencing homelessness? This is the easiest service project, but you must be 18 or older!

Anyone who will be participating must sign up online. You cannot just show up the day of and participate in the meal service. This is a landing page specifically for our group that will show only your reserved shift. PLEASE DO THIS IMMEDIATELY AFTER RSVPING.
This service event is for adults 18 years and older only, no exceptions. Meal service engages volunteers to plate food, walk trays out to guests seated in the dining room, clear dishes when guests are finished eating, and then support with miscellaneous cleaning tasks like wiping tables and filling napkin dispensers.

Dress code
Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops allowed). Volunteers should wear pants and socks and shoes. Hairnets, aprons, and plastic gloves will be provided.Parking
Their FREE PARKING LOT is on the north side of Vine Street West. Cross 13th Street, and make the next right into the parking lot between Roman Catholic High School and the facility. You will see the sign on the gate just before the entrance to the lot. If you hit Broad Street, you’ve gone too far.AGAIN, SERIOUS COMMITMENTS ONLY!
