Take a Hike! ...with Black Philadelphia!

Join the crew for a hike along the Wissahickon Trail as we celebrate JUNETEENTH.

Agenda - Take Note!

10:55 a.m. - Meet and Greet at Sunoco (Don't park in the gas station lot though)
11:00 a.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!
12:00 p.m. - initial hike ends. Join optional extended/stupid hike
1:15 p.m. - End of hike (approximately)

If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done. This is a great event to talk and get to know other members.

APROX. 3 MILES

WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive; this is a moderate hike. The trails are hilly and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with serious joint problems. There is a road that remains flat and runs for several miles right alongside the creek for those who would rather keep it simple, but our group will be hiking the trails. We will take a couple of breaks, but this is not a leisurely stroll; be prepared to maintain a decent pace.

NOTE: This hike will take us along a spot that may bother those with a fear of heights. Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction. I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm just sayin'... Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit, or trail mix. Hiking pole, bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. You may just need a light jacket, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry).

Leave the makeup and cologne at home because we are going to sweat a bit! We might see a cute jogger, but I promise the chipmunks and deer will NOT be impressed.

This is a very popular area and is frequented by people walking dogs, riding bikes, and occasionally riding horses. Just be aware of your surroundings and walk to your right.

Park where you can, but NOT in the Sunoco lot.
