What I Learnt Spending 200 Hours Teaching my Daughter to Code...
Details
..and how I am building a company around that learning.
In summer of 2014, Jey Iyempandi started to teach his 8-year old daughter how to code. He spent over 200 hours teaching her and realized that many existing solutions for teaching real coding to kids are neither structured nor sustained. Sensing the need, he set out to build a company to satisfy that need.
In this talk, Jey will be sharing what he learnt teaching his daughter to code and how he is applying those learnings to build his company CodeWizardsHQ (http://www.codewizardshq.com/our-program/). This is also a great case study on how to go about building a company to solve your own problem.
About the Speaker
Jey worked for Dell for 10 years before starting CodeWizardsHQ (http://www.codewizardshq.com/our-program/). His company is a coding program for middle school children. Students take live, instructor-led, online classes from the convenience of their homes. The approach combines the effectiveness of teacher-led instruction with the ease and convenience of online classrooms. You can find out more on Twitter (https://twitter.com/codewizardshq) or Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/codewizardshq).
Lightning Talk
"Building the Online Classroom" - Ted Patrick (https://twitter.com/ted)
Ted worked with Jey to build the online classroom for CodeWizardsHQ. We'll take a tour of what we built to solve key problems for the online classroom, including a look at the whole stack… PHP, websockets, Vue-based rich UI, etc.
