Top Q&A Questions:
- Can you use brown sugar instead of white sugar in the brown butter shortbread cookies?
- I think you can, and I think that would be really good. I use powdered sugar because powdered sugar dissolves and it’s a little lighter. The rule with our traditional shortbread cookies is one part sugar, two parts butter, and four parts flour so you can try that with brown sugar. Go ahead and experiment.
- How did you decide to incorporate baking into your mystery series?
- I started out writing historical fiction, then I switched to writing a mystery. I didn’t even know I had written a “cozy mystery,” which is a mystery solved by an amateur. In this mystery genre, there’s usually a hook and I was told that the hook could be food, which got me excited because I bake a lot. I love incorporating baking in my books because I get to share recipes in the back of the books.
