Top Q&A Questions and Resources:

  • Should you fake laughter if you don’t feel anything is funny or amusing?
    • The short answer is, yes, it can be beneficial. For me, I don’t think of myself as faking laughter, I think of myself as generating laughter as a form of exercise. Your body doesn’t care whether the laughter is genuine laughter, or you’re just going through the motions of laughter, you don’t have to have anything funny happen in order to laugh. Going through the motion of laughing actually creates the emotion of joy.
  • Do you feel like this would be a good thing to help kids start the day?
    • Absolutely! I think laughter is beneficial for all kinds of people. They are now incorporating this work into schools. The great thing about laughter yoga is that it’s quick bursts of laughter, so it can be done when you know there’s a class change during the school day. In India, where laughter yoga started, they’re practicing it in schools every morning as part of their assembly.
  • How has laughter yoga improved your health?
    • For me, the main benefits that I’ve mentioned are my capacity to laugh has grown substantially, and things that used to not bring laughter or humor to me now do. I do feel spunkier and more aerobic, it does condition those abdominal muscles for sure. I have seen major benefits in terms of mental health as well.
