Recovering from Religion: The Struggle is Real
Darrel Ray, Ed.D.
President of Recovering from Religion & The Secular Therapy Project
Description:
Religion infects people in ways they do not understand. Religious beliefs cause harm in many ways. The symptoms may look quite “normal” until you look behind the behavior to understand the beliefs. For example, a person may have persistent symptoms of anxiety. This may seem like a response that any human might have until we scratch below the surface and find religiously motivated beliefs that underpin the anxiety. Perfectionism seems like a common and “normal” behavior but perfectionism is often rooted in religious childhood training. In this talk we will explore these and other ideas and how they relate to religious recovery. In the process of discussing these, we will explore the services of RfR and how we help people in many different ways.
