What we’re about
A warm welcome to Bodhicharya Kent, a Buddhist group based in the Medway town of Rochester, under the inspiration and guidance of Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.
The group is focused around learning and practising meditation together, as well as reflecting on and discussing the Buddhist teachings. Everyone is welcome, whether you are a Buddhist, a practitioner of another faith, someone with a curiosity about the Buddhist perspective or you are simply looking to learn meditation and begin to integrate its benefits into your daily life. Whatever your motivation, an open and curious mind, with a dash of scepticism, will be most useful.
To find out more about our weekly meditation and reflection evenings please see here.
Bodhicharya Kent is under the umbrella of Bodhicharya UK, a registered charity and part of the Bodhicharya family, a world-wide network of people, centres and organisations taking various forms at 35 locations in 13 countries, all inspired and guided by the Buddhist teachings and Ringu Tulku. Our guiding principles are: Healing – Helping – Harmony.

### Topic: Buddhist Meditation
This term we will be following the book, Buddhist Meditation, by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche.
In this book Ringu Tulku brings us directly and lightheartedly to the point of Buddhist meditation: it helps to develop the two positive life enhancing qualities that lie naturally within us, clarity of mind and kindness for self and others.
He reminds us that through meditation we can come to understand how the interconnectedness of all things is crucial for human wellbeing and for the future of the planet. No fuss or frills, it is as simple as that. The methods for practice he describes are relaxed and straightforward, the logic is clear, and the result is peace of mind.
It’s recommended that you purchase the book from our onsite bookshop or here to help you follow along and get the most out of our exploration of this teaching together.
However, you are also most welcome to join in when you can, take away what makes sense and is useful and meaningful to you and leave aside what is less so.
Other than our regular group facilitator, Cesare, we also have visiting teachers throughout the year, so please check our event page for updates, thank you.### Who is it for?
These meeting are open to all people who are new or who are familiar with Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. On the first Tuesday of the month we will spend a little more time explaining the Buddhist perspective on life and the meaning of the Refuge Prayer we begin our sessions with, but everyone is welcome at any of our meetings and you can begin anytime. The group is made up of the participants, so active engagement, questions, reflections and discussion are welcome, however, if you prefer to just sit back, listen, reflect and take it in, then that is perfectly okay too.
There are comfortable chairs and meditation cushions available and refreshments are provided.

### “Why and how do I practice Dharma?”
The chosen topic for these evenings of teachings by Ringu Tulku Rinpoche is, “Why and how do I practice Dharma?”
Many of us are interested in personal-development, well-being and spiritual practice, but why are we interested in these things, and what relevance do they have to our lives and the world in which we live today? Furthermore, how do we put our ideas and aspirations in to practice in the most effective and beneficial way for ourselves and others? In this series of talks, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche will demystify and simplify the what, why and how of spiritual practice by drawing from his lifetime of study and practice of the Buddhist tradition and distilling its essence.
There will also be an opportunity to take Refuge on the 14th May after the talk, and Bodhisattva Vows on the 15th after the talk.
If you would like to take Refuge or Bodhisattva Vows, then please email: bk.meditate@gmail.com with your full name and “Refuge/Bodhisattva Vows” in the heading, thank you.
