Beginner Figure Drawing
Details
Gain confidence drawing the human figure in this beginner-friendly, guided drawing class. Ages 16+
Ongoing, Biweekly Sundays: 10:00am - 12:30pm. $40.
Attendees must pre-register through this link: https://www.catalystartscollaborative.com/service-page/beginner-figure-drawing-sun-10am-1
Learn how to conduct a figure drawing study with a live model using vine charcoal, newsprint and drawing paper. While each standalone session will discuss basic human proportions, composition, value and form, each lesson may focus on a specific topic, including but not limited to: hands, face, torso, foreshortening (lying down), drapery over figure.
Each session, we'll learn about optimal work area set-up, basic materials, and dynamic gestures and measuring techniques. As a group, we will learn from each other by sharing our work and discussing our challenges in brief critiques during breaks for our model.
These figure drawing studies create muscle memory to draw more accurate figures without reference to allow an easier creative flow; practice makes progress!
Please bring the following with you:
- Newsprint paper (14x17 or larger)
- Charcoal pencils 2B and 4B
- Conté pencils or sticks
- Kneaded eraser
- Occasionally, for longer poses, we will use drawing paper (14x17 or larger)
- Compressed charcoal sticks 2B, 4B, 6B
While we encourage you to purchase and bring your own materials to class (as it means you'll be able to practice outside of class with familiar tools), we always keep extra supplies on hand just in case!
All other supplies will be provided.
Your instructor, Jessica, is a classically trained fine artist and illustrator with over 20 years of fine art experience.
Ages 16+ are welcome! Registration is $40. Register here: https://www.catalystartscollaborative.com/service-page/beginner-figure-drawing-sun-10am-1
