Create Your Own Comic Summer Art Course

Build characters, storyboard comics, and develop your own drawing style! Ages 15-17

5-day course: Monday - Friday, July 13 - July 17, 9:00am - 2:00pm (with a 30-minute lunch break each day). $100.

One of the biggest lessons your instructor, Damon, has learned is that strong artwork comes from consistency. Every character, object, background and imperfection should feel intentional. In this camp, students will learn how to build that consistency while developing their own unique style. We’ll also focus on confidence. Students will learn how to simplify, stay focused, and create artwork that is clear and expressive. Inspiration will come from styles that mix anime, graffiti, realism, and popular comics.

Throughout the camp, students will build a foundation in character design by learning features like eyes, noses, mouths, hair, hands, and overall expression. They will learn essential skills to create their own comics. They will learn how to storyboard and create their own layouts ready for print. Through daily drawing exercises, guided practice, and original character projects, they’ll refine sketches into finished artwork and complete a polished final piece by the end of camp. Their pages will be printed in a one shot anthology issue.
