Welcome to the Cambridge Bon-Odori Dance Club 盆踊り・剣橋会, the UK's only dedicated Bon-odori dance club.
We are a friendly community bringing people together to learn and enjoy Bon-odori, traditional Japanese dances usually performed in a circle to Japanese folk music.
🎐 What is Bon-odori?
Bon-odori is a traditional Japanese folk dance associated with Obon, a Japanese festival commemorating and welcoming ancestral spirits. Different regions of Japan have developed their own Bon-odori dances, each with distinctive music, choreography and local character.
At our regular sessions, we explore dances from different parts of Japan — from well-known classics to regional dances — while learning a little about the culture and traditions behind them.

日本各地に伝わるさまざまな盆踊りを学びながら、みんなで楽しく踊ることをモットーに、月1回ほどのペースで練習会を開催しています。
盆踊りに興味のある方なら、老若男女どなたでも大歓迎！
日本文化を体験したい方、健康のために体を動かしたい方、新しい友達を作りたい方など、参加のきっかけは何でもOKです。
民謡の音色に合わせて、みんなで輪になって踊りましょう！

It’s not Tai Chi.
It’s not Karate.
It’s a traditional dance from Japan!Bon-odori is a Japanese folk dance, most often performed outdoors and danced in concentric circles.
It is a public, participatory dance enjoyed by people of all ages — young and old, men and women, experienced dancers and complete beginners.
Each region of Japan has its own varieties of Bon-odori, reflecting its unique local culture and heritage.
With a little practice, anyone can dance Bon-odori!At our monthly dance sessions, you’ll learn and experience different Bon-odori dances from various regions of Japan — each with its own music, movements and character.
Come along, have fun, and discover the joy of Bon-odori!
What to wear
No need to bring a partner. Just come along in loose-fitting, comfortable clothes and comfortable footwear.
