Scottsdale Book Club Meetup Group

Welcome to the Scottsdale Book Club!  We are glad that you stopped by and stayed to check us out. Since you are already familiar with books and clubs, we will jump right to the aspect that makes us different. Our club doesn’t try to pick the best books. We try to pick the best books to talk about. Our books lead to lively discussions. Our books are open to multiple perspectives. But those perspectives don’t speak for themselves. They need people to show up for them. They need you.

We have a big Ask of you. We ask that once a month you open your focus to any kind of book. It’s a big ask. But opening yourself up means that you can join us any time. You can participate.

Participation in a community of book lovers is the most valuable service we can provide to you. Rather than introduce you to the nineteenth title in your favorite genre, we want to introduce you to nine fellow book lovers who evaluate books differently than you. Not better than you. Just different.

You already know your own point of view. You will walk away from our meetups with several different variations on a book in addition to your own. It is the best bargain in the book world: you get nine books for the price of reading just one.

Our model is a memory of past great discussions we all experienced, where ideas flew back and forth. The key to that excitement were people who were present and energized and a book that allowed multiple points of view. It was the kind of book that made people say “I saw the ending completely differently than the way you just described it” and “wait, wait, have you considered what happened in chapter 8?” These reactions made you dwell on them afterward, because they were so different. And a different perspective is what we want to give  you.

So, to sum up: we know that you will continue to do solo reading of your favorite type of books and we think that’s wonderful.  We hope that in addition to your usual reading, you’ll experiment with great discussions of any kind of book. If you wait for your favorite book to be assigned in this meetup, you will wait years. If you prioritize discussion, you can join us this month. So please read the next book and come soon!
