Sometimes it is just nerves. Sometimes it is a shortcut, a way to quickly figure out whether this person fits into the life you are building.

Both are honest reasons.

But here is the problem: the question rarely gets you what you actually want to know. And depending on who is sitting across from you, it may have already changed the tone of the conversation before it had a chance to go anywhere real.
