Hike Tripyramids! (NH 48 4K - 2 peaks)

Details

Trail: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/tripyramids-loop-99f16d3
distance: 11 mi
elevation gain: 2900 ft

Mount Tripyramid is a mountain located in Grafton County, New Hampshire. Part of the Sandwich Range of the White Mountains, it has three distinct peaks – North, Middle, and South – along its mile-long summit ridge. North, at 4,160 ft (1,270 m), is the highest. Both North and Middle Tripyramid are included in the Appalachian Mountain Club's list of New England "four-thousand footers". Although over 4,000 feet in height, South Tripyramid is not, because it lacks topographic prominence, being less than 200 ft above the col on the ridge from Middle Tripyramid.

Sign-up instructions:
Sign up for this trip by going to this link: https://p.ridj-it.com/app/trip-detail?id=114263. You will need to have a Ridj-it account to join. Your Ridj-it account is different from your Meetup account. A Meetup RSVP does not count as a signup.

For questions about the trip, you'll need to leave a question or comment on the Ridj-it link above, not on Meetup.

Trip plan continued:
We will take the Pine Bend Brook Trail to reach the summit of North Tripyramid and then take the Mt Tripyramid Trail to reach the summits of Middle and South Tripyramids. We'll take the Sabbaday Brook Trail for our descent although there is a one mile walk on the Kancamagus Highway to get back to the Pine Bend Brook trail head. If we have more than one car, we could avoid this road walk by car spotting.

This hike is rated difficult because of the length and elevation gain. There are steeper sections in this hike which require some negotiation. If you have winter hiking experience of 4K' mountains, are in good shape and have a regular exercise routine, you should be good to go.

Expectations
I expect you to have previous hiking experience in the Whites Mountain, Adirondacks or Maine. This is a long hike with steep sections.

We will be hiking at a moderate pace of around 1.5 miles per hour. So, if you're looking to go as fast as possible or have difficulty staying together as a group, I do not recommend this hike for you.

Additional expectations

  1. I am not a guide and this is not a service - I expect you to be fully prepared with the gear listed below and the mindset that you could get yourself out of trouble if needed.
  2. We stick together - this is a group event, so if you feel that you are not flexible in working as a team, this will not be a good hike for you.
  3. Parking is limited, so non-carpoolers will be limited.

Gear

  1. Hiking boots or shoes
  2. Extra layers
  3. Headlamp with extra batteries or another headlamp (days are much shorter)
  4. 2-3 liters of water
  5. Snacks and lunch ~2000 calories.
  6. Extra clothing to change into after
  7. First-aid kit
  8. Copy of the trail map: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/tripyramids-loop-99f16d3

Highly recommended

  1. Hiking poles (very helpful during descent on steep/wet trails)
