Boston Try Something Club

Hi everyone, I’m Lorena! I’m a biotech scientist who recently moved to the area, so I’m still pretty new here. When I first arrived, I didn’t know many people locally, so I started organizing small get-togethers and gradually met more people along the way.

So far, I’ve organized a few events, and we’ve had a great time! Most of us are in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, and we come from a variety of fields, including finance, biotech, tech, healthcare, universities, and graduate schools. Right now, our group is mostly made up of native Chinese speakers, along with some native English speakers. Everyone is comfortable communicating in English, and English speakers are absolutely welcome to join us!

A local friend recommended Meetup to me, so I thought this would be a great way to meet more people and make our group a little more international. No matter where you’re from or what your cultural background is, you’re very welcome here. This is not a professional networking group—we’re simply here to have fun, spend time together, and naturally get to know people in a relaxed setting.

Our activities are pretty simple: cooking together, game nights, weekend trips around New England, and trying new, beginner-friendly outdoor activities that don’t require any previous experience. Most of our events take place on Saturday afternoons, with an occasional full-day weekend activity.

How to Join

1. RSVP & Event Group Chat
   I’ll post each upcoming event on Meetup for RSVP. Once you sign up, please join the dedicated WhatsApp chat for that event. That’s where I’ll share the exact time and location, what to bring, and any last-minute updates.
2. No Membership or Organizer Fees
   There are no membership or organizer fees for our events. I organize these activities simply because I’d like us to meet new people, have fun together, and try new things.
3. Shared Expenses
   For activities that require groceries, reservations, tickets, or other shared expenses, the actual cost will be split among the people who attend. I’ll let everyone know about any expected expenses in the WhatsApp chat ahead of time.
4. If Your Plans Change, Please Let Us Know
   Some activities require us to buy food or make reservations based on the number of people attending. If you RSVP but later realize you can’t make it, please let us know as early as possible. This helps us adjust our plans and also gives someone else a chance to join.
5. A Separate WhatsApp for Each Event
   To keep things simple and avoid unnecessary notifications or social-media clutter, we don’t keep everyone in one large permanent group chat. Each event has its own WhatsApp chat, and the chat will be closed within the week after the event.

If you come to an event and enjoy the vibe, you’re always welcome to RSVP for another one. The goal is to make it easy to meet new people, have a good time, and stay connected without the pressure of keeping up with a big group chat.
