What we're about
We are a group of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Signers who meet every week to chat in American Sign Language. This group is open to people who speaks American Sign Language. We especially encourage people to come to our group who want to HAVE FUN while socializing with all sorts of different people! This is not a study group nor class! It's a great group for practicing having real conversations in American Sign Language.
We are a bunch of people who speaks American Sign Language, and who want to get better and better at signing. Some of us want to become interpreters or are in interpreting programs. Others work with Deaf people or have Deaf family members. We have American Sign Language students, pros, and everything in between. Some of us are Deaf and just want to hang out with other fun Deaf, hard-of-hearing, or hearing people who sign. Essentially, we are a social group brought together because we love American Sign Language and we want to have a place where we can socialize, get to know one another, and practice our American Sign Language skills.
Boston Area American Sign Language Meetup welcomes and celebrates diversity in our membership! We do not tolerate audism, racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other type of discriminatory behavior at our meetings.
Group rules:
1. Sign up as member when you join
2. RSVP when you attend any of our ASL Meetups to make it easy for organizer to keep an record of attendances
3. Please treat all members with courtesy and respect--both online and in person.
4. Membership is at the discretion of the organizers, and you can be removed from the group at any time.
We hope to see you at a Meetup soon!

Hello Signers!

You'll need the Zoom app for your Mac or PC (recommended) or Phone to join the meeting. We recommend a laptop because smartphones only show a few people at a time making participation difficult. A tablet may work if you can support it upright and aim the camera.
The link above will guide you through downloading Zoom and joining this event. No registration required (although please do RSVP here).
If you're asked for the meeting code, try clicking the link above again.
Anyone who speaks American Sign Language is welcome to come and be part of the fun! We want to warmly extend an invitation to Deaf people or others fluent/skilled in the language to join our group.
This is an easy-going and casual get-together to meet people who enjoy American Sign Language, who want to brush up on their signing skills, and want to learn more American Sign Language by speaking it as often as possible.
We strive to have a good time and communicate without using voices. If lots of folks show up, we split up into small groups and mix and mingle, so we can actually see one another clearly, face-to-face and get a good conversation going.
Don't be afraid or shy if you're not "perfect" at American Sign Language, because being "perfect" is not the point of this group. No one expects that everyone will be at the same level, and none of us mind slowing down or repeating what we have signed so that everyone understands.
This isn't an ASL class or practice group since none of us are certified American Sign Language teachers, so there's really no pressure or expectation--other than that we all speak American Sign Language to communicate. We all learn from one another!
IF you've taken an American Sign Language class before (or have had exposure to someone who speaks the language) and know the basics then join us to get your fingers, hands, face and body moving, American Sign Language-style!
It will be great to see folks!

Hello ASL Enthusiasts!
A number of folks living NORTH of Boston have asked about an ASL SOCIAL. Let's make this happen!
On WEDNESDAYS, starting October 29 - 6pm to 8pm - I / we will be at the NORTH SHORE MALL Food Court.
While technology has improved the way people communicate, "Deaf Social Clubs" are slowly disappearing. This is a way to start bringing REAL social interaction back!
Please join us for a casual, relaxed, no-pressure two-hour Social, where we can chat, tell stories, get to know each other, and meet new people (or old friends!). Friends, Fun and Food!
A warm welcome is extended to all Deaf & non-Deaf people: folks in the Deaf Community, CODA's, Interpreters, ASL students, parents of deaf children AND their children, ASL professors/teachers, Relay Operators, Deaf services workers- EVERYONE!
This will be a "SOME ASL KNOWLEDGE and ABOVE" Social, because not all of us are ASL-fluent! "Voices- Off" -- we'll all laugh & learn WITH and FROM each other!
WHAT: ASL SOCIAL CLUB
WHERE: North Shore Mall Food Court, PEABODY,MA
DAY/TIME: Wednesdays, 6pm - 8pm
WHY: To meet like-minded people, socialize using ASL, tell stories, and have good time!
WHO: Anyone who wants to chat using American Sign Language!
HOW TO FIND US: We'll be sitting on the couches closest to the "walkway" side of the Food Court, not hidden inside the food court, so easier to locate us!
If you have any question, please contact Paul I., through the EMAIL LINK via BOSTON AREA ASL profile page.
PLEASE, if you would be good enough, RSVP either "YES" or "NO" so I know who to look for!
CHEERS!
Paul I.
PEACE...
