What we're about

Boston Dads Group is a diverse community of fathers in the Massachusetts and Rhode Island areas, who take an active role in our children’s lives. We seek to create an online meetup group to bring fathers together in person. We'll meet several times per week, with our kids, at parks, playgrounds, museums, parent-and-me classes, and living rooms across the greater Boston Metro and Providence, Rhode Island areas. We'll also organize parenting workshops and Dads Nights Out to give our members an opportunity to socialize, learn, and support each other as we navigate parenthood.

There are not enough resources, social groups, or services for dads. This is a destination for all active dads. A diverse group with dads of all stripes: stay-at-home dads, dads with flexible schedules, work from home dads, freelancers, working dads, teachers, and involved fathers in and around the Boston Metro and Providence, RI areas to socialize and interact with other guys who enjoy spending quality time with their children.

** Please note this group is strictly for Dads, we understand sometimes wives will try to join for their significant others but we encourage them to join on their own accord. We want this group to be a comfortable place for Dads to learn and talk about anything dad related.

25th Annual HomeDadCon

Network event

Online event

Our friends at the National At-Home Dad Network (NAHDN) will be hosting their 25th annual convention this fall in Cincinnati. Cincinnati Dads Group is the host group, and City Dads Group is a returning sponsor.

Registration and information about the event can be found at https://homedadcon.org/

The hotel also has a special room rate for the weekend and can be booked at this link: http://group.embassysuites.com/HomeDadCon2021

All attendees and speakers will be required to be fully vaccinated and must agree to the organization's COVID statement: https://homedadcon.org/homedadcon_covid_statement/

HomeDadCon is a parenting convention with a focus on modern fatherhood and a well-deserved chance to recharge and connect with fathers from around the nation. The NAHDN brings expert speakers and presenters to help attendees become better at what they love: being a great dad. See the schedule and speaker list on the website. Expect a full weekend of parenting, family, and fatherhood-oriented scheduling.

The NAHDN offers Brian Dickson Memorial Scholarships to fathers who wish to attend but are struggling to make it due to the overall costs. The application deadline is August 15th. To nominate yourself or someone you know for a Brian Dickson Memorial Scholarship go to this page: http://athomedad.org/scholarships/

The NAHDN is a registered 501(c)(3) whose mission statement is “To provide advocacy, community, education, and support for families where the fathers are primary caregivers for their children.” For more information about the NAHDN visit http://athomedad.org/ or visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/HomeDadNet

“Is this event just teaching me how to change a diaper?”

No, this event is Professional Development for Professional Dads. Education is a core principle of HomeDadCon, and the NAHDN takes that seriously. Expect information that represents modern fatherhood and addresses the challenges we face today. Please visit their website for the speaker announcements. Past HomeDadCon sessions have covered topics such as: relationships, finances, discipline, gender issues, communication, parenting styles, home safety, stress reduction, mental health, adoption, homeschooling, and many more. Along with some fun opportunities to learn parenting skills from other fathers.

"I'm not really a 'stay-at-home dad' is this convention for me?"

The programming is designed with dads who are regularly the primary caregiver of their child(ren) in mind. If that's you - even part-time, and regardless of marital or employment status - then yes, this is definitely for you. Even if you don’t consider yourself a full-time at-home dad, you are still welcome, and much of the programming is appropriate for any involved, hands-on parent.

"Can/should I bring my kids?"

While some attendees bring their families to the HomeDadCon host city with them in order to enjoy some of the sights before or after the convention, HomeDadCon itself is generally not for children, and cannot provide child care. In addition, many attendees feel that some of their favorite aspects of HomeDadCon are the times spent with the brotherhood of fatherhood, so bringing your family could mean less time to just relax with your fellow fathers.

“Is there anything to do in Cincinnati?”

There is a wonderful riverwalk along the Ohio River, The National Underground Railroad Museum, multiple breweries, and restaurants.

The Convention Committee has scheduled several fun events outside of convention programming for dads to interact and socialize. Free events like a photo walking tour of Downtown Cincinnati and Over The Rhine, and touring The National Air Force Museum, and low-cost events like watching the professional soccer team FC Cincinnati take on Orlando City, are already planned. More events will be announced soon.
