Learn how to contribute to Open Source with Hacktoberfest!
Details
Do you want to be part of the open-source software developer community?
Do you need a little help getting started, or just some motivation?
Are you someone who already contributes, and wants to help others learn how?
REQUIREMENTS
The requirements for contributing to open source are not as tough as you might think. All you really need are a laptop and some basic Git/GitHub skills, which we will teach you.
Software development skills will help increase the number of things you can do, but they aren't necessarily required.
HACKTOBERFEST
Hacktoberfest is an event put on by Digital Ocean and Developer Community each year where developers who make 4 valid pull requests during the month of October are rewarded with a free t-shirt.
Of course there are lots more reasons to get involved, but for many people this provides that extra bit of motivation to get started.
BUT IT'S SO LATE IN OCTOBER ALREADY!
I can hear you saying, "But October is already more than half over. How could I possibly submit 4 pull requests in such a short period of time?" Contributing is a lot easier than many people think. Submitting 4 PRs in one week is absolutely do-able
So come join us and let's eat some free pizza and see if we can help grow the open source community together! (...and earn a free t-shirt in the process!)
Disclaimer: BostonPHP has no direct affiliation with Hacktoberfest or its sponsors. We won't compel you to participate in the program if you don't want to. If you just want to learn how to contribute, that's great too!
