January Meeting
Details
Hi, everyone!
It's time for our monthly meeting. This month we are happy to welcome back Sam Backus with his talk on what's new in Ruby 2.6:
Happy Holidays! Since 1995 it’s been a Ruby tradition to release a new version every December. Let’s get together and unwrap Ruby 2.6! I’m hoping for a shiny JIT compiler, hot new functions and some sweet syntactic sugar. What’s on your Ruby wishlist?
Sam streams at https://www.twitch.tv/expressivesyntax and he can be found at https://twitter.com/SamBackus on Twitter.
UPDATE: We have a second talk from Boston.RB Organizer Emeritus Nick Quaranto!
The GraphQL Way: A new path for JSON APIs
Have you written JSON APIs in Rails a few times? Even if you’re escaped implementing a “render: :json” call, some day soon you’ll need to get JSON data out to a native client or your front-end framework. Your Rails apps might change, but the pitfalls for JSON APIs stay the same: They’re hard to discover, difficult to change from the client side, and documenting them is a pain. For your next app, or your current one, let’s consider GraphQL. I'll show you how to implement it in your app and offer real-world advice from making it work in an existing Rails app.
Schedule:
- 6:00pm - Eat, mingle.
- 6:20pm - Talks begin.
