Hello, everyone!

For our February meeting, Braulio Carreño will give part 3 of his series of talks on performance, Caching for Grown Ups, and Michael Durrant will talk about how to leverage your Ruby skills in AWS.

We are also looking for speakers for March and April, so if you'd like to give a talk, submit it at https://www.papercall.io/bostonrb and we'll get you scheduled.

Caching for Grown Ups

All high traffic websites make use of some type of reverse proxy or content delivery network (CDN). In this presentation we’ll show how we take advantage of Fastly, a modern CDN, to serve 90K requests per minute at ActBlue, the small dollar fundraising platform.

How is a CDN different from traditional caching? What other features does it provide? We’ll cover HTTP headers, API, and Varnish Configuration Language (VCL). We’ll explain the concepts as well as provide practical examples.

['Ruby','AWS'].join= Job.new for Ruby developers

Ruby is a great Language. AWS is a great platform. Combine the two for great new job possibilities! With the addition of Ruby as a core supported language in AWS in November of 2018, huge possibilities were opened up for existing Ruby developers to put their deep Ruby knowledge to work within the AWS ecosystem.

Schedule:

  • 6:00pm - Eat, mingle
  • 6:15pm - Talks begin
