Writing Understandable Tests
Jason Swett
Automated tests can be helpful for catching regressions, but if the tests are hard to understand, they’re going to be hard to work with and their value will be greatly diminished. In this talk, Jason Swett, host of the Code with Jason Podcast and author of The Complete Guide to Rails Testing, will share some of the most common understandability mistakes organizations make and how to correct them so that you get maximum benefit out of your test suite.

Understanding Ruby
Kevin Newton
Ruby implementations, linters, formatters, and type checkers all have to share an understanding of source code. This understanding starts at the parser and extends through syntax trees and other intermediate representations until it reaches its final output. How does that pipeline work, and how can we use it to our advantage? This talk dives into the details, and shows how you can use the internals of Ruby to become a better Ruby programmer.

Kevin is a staff engineer at Shopify, based out of Boston, Massachusetts. He is passionate about music and open-source software.

Light refreshments will be available.
