See all- September Practice: New England Ukulele String EnsembleFlint Public Library, Middleton, MA
The New England Ukulele String Ensemble (NEUSE) is getting ready for the 2026 concert season. We have a great and varied concert program planned. We are an instrumental ukulele ensemble. NEUSE is dedicated to promoting the ukulele as a more versatile instrument and providing free concerts for the public. 5-part music with melody, harmony, baritone, guitar for bass and a good strumming line. We are 14 strong and getting ready to start practices for the 2026 season. NEUSE is always looking for additional players. Reading and playing standard music notation is helpful but not an absolute requirement. Our strumming/chord line is easy and just right for new and even beginning players. We practice once a month at the Flint Public Library in Middleton. Extra help is always available for new players. Genres include classical, western, blues, country, folk and rock. The ukulele is very versatile, playing music similar to an orchestra. The performance list for 2026 is listed below. Come and join the group for great fun and explore the instrumental ukulele. We're a relaxed supportive group of people playing at all different levels. We’re here to make music together and have fun. (And don't forget our upcoming ukulele festival, Sun. Oct. 5, 1-5:30 p.m.)Everyone's welcome, from beginners to Rio Saito (seriously, we'd love it if he came, check out his Guava Jam). We also welcome people who play uke-friendly instruments like guitar, bass, etc., and people who want to sing or listen. We have half a dozen loaner ukes.
When your turn comes, you can lead a song, request someone else lead a song of your choice, or pass. We have binders of song sheets with uke chord diagrams for each song. (If you use a tablet, we have a Google Drive folder with the songsheets.) If you want to lead a song that’s not in our binder, please bring printed song sheets to share.
We play everything from rock/pop to jazz to Hawai’ian to trad/folk, with other genres thrown in for good measure. List of our current songs is here: https://cohassetukulele.org/contact/#song-list
