About us
The Dallas B.O.T.A. Study Group is a great introduction to Qabalah and esoteric Tarot. It's free and open to the public. The Study Group is held on the 2nd Saturday of every month starting at 9:45 am.
We meet at the Edwin Kiest Masonic Lodge, 10210 Hermosa Drive, Dallas, TX 75218 (close to the intersection of Garland Road and Loop 12 Buckner). Park in the parking lot and come on in. The Lodge is across the street from the White Rock swimming pool. The group has been active since 1991. Visitors are always welcome!
More about the Builders of the Adytum (B.O.T.A.):
Founded by Dr Paul Case in the 1920s, Builders of the Adytum is a Mystery School and training order based on the Western Mystery Tradition. This Qabalistic path has been described as the Yoga of the West, as it has much in common with esoteric Eastern spiritual practices. B.O.T.A. members receive lessons in the mail in Tarot, Qabalah, Spiritual Alchemy, Esoteric Astrology and related disciplines. The coursework is challenging, far-reaching and immensely practical for everyday life. Most months we have a discussion on a topic from Tarot or Qabalah, followed by a guided Qabalistic meditation and lunch. But some months there are special events, such as our seasonal rituals exploring the esoteric symbolism of Christmas and Easter. See the Meetup event announcements below for details.
Newcomers are welcome to join in our discussions. No advanced preparation is necessary; you need only bring your interest, imagination and inquiring mind. We hope to see you soon!
Group Ritual Work is also available to Dallas B.O.T.A. members. Sometimes described as prayer in motion, ritual work has been practiced throughout the ages by spiritual aspirants. Combined with the lesson material, it can be a powerful catalyst to personal growth. After completing the requisite initial coursework, members may request initiation and thereafter participate in our healing ritual work of Pronaos.

Schedule for November 14, 2026:

11:00 am Vibratory Attunement
Noon: Potluck Lunch
Location: Edwin Kiest Masonic Lodge, 10210 Hermosa Dr., Dallas, TXOn November 14th, at 9:45 am, we invite you to our regular Open Forum meeting to discuss the Hebrew letter Lamed, Justice, and Tarot Key 11.
"Lamed (L, value 30) means, as a verb, “to teach, to instruct.” As a noun, identical with the Hebrew letter-name, Lamed signifies “an ox-goad.” Since the ox, in this alphabet, is Aleph, Lamed stands for that which urges and guides the manifestation of the power represented in Tarot by the Fool.
"Now, this cosmic power is all-pervading and all-embracing. Consequently, there can be no other power, outside it, to set it in motion and direct its course. We must understand, then, that the letter Lamed stands for something within the Life-power. It represents an inward urge or drive, and an inward capacity for self-direction.
"In The Book of Formation the special function assigned to Lamed is Work or Action. This is also the basic meaning of the Sanskriti term Karma…
"Libra, the Scales, is a cardinal, airy sign. It is ruled by Venus (Key 3, The Empress) and is the sign in which Saturn (Key 21, The World) is exalted. Our subconscious deductions from experience are the seeds of Karma, and are actually the basis of all our activities. From them we gain instruction and knowledge. Furthermore, the highest manifestation of the restrictive, concrete, definitive power of Saturn is brought about through the operation of the law symbolized by Key 11…
"Faithful Intelligence is the special mode of consciousness attributed by Qabalists to the letter Lamed. The Hebrew for “faithful” is AMN, Amen, which we say as a confirmatory expression at the end of our prayers. This word is closely related to the Sanskrit AUM, or Om, and to the name of the Egyptian god Amun, often written Amen. In the Qabalah we are told that “spiritual values are deposited in the Faithful Intelligence, and augment therein.” Here is the very idea of the ripening of perception and interpretation into motives for action, so familiar to occultists as a fundamental meaning of Karma."
