Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

WARNING & DISCLAIMER!
this is a political and "left" leaning book. we are most definitely going to have conversations about social justice, socioeconomic systems and race relations. if you are not Pro BLM/BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, Pro-Choice, you will likely be uncomfortable in this discussion. if are a "right" leaning person and choose to attend, be respectful or you will be told to leave and blocked from future meetups with our group.

this has not been on my to-read list for long as i didn't know it existed until last year! thanx to a member, I've been inspired to put it on our to-read. so, it's time to start a dive into Octavia Butler.
If the reviews are to be believed, we're in for one hell of a journey. It's a futuristic book written in 1993, about 2024. buckle up readers! we are gonna compare and contrast like our college Lit classes! extra credit for any essays that are presented orally! heehee!

I apologize for the late june meetup. i'll be out of town most of June so, this is what the calendar allows.

Happy Reading and see you in the basement!
Good Reads summary below.

In 2024, with the world descending into madness and anarchy, one woman begins a fateful journey toward a better future.

Lauren Olamina and her family live in one of the only safe neighborhoods remaining on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Behind the walls of their defended enclave, Lauren’s father, a preacher, and a handful of other citizens try to salvage what remains of a culture that has been destroyed by drugs, disease, war, and chronic water shortages. While her father tries to lead people on the righteous path, Lauren struggles with hyperempathy, a condition that makes her extraordinarily sensitive to the pain of others.

When fire destroys their compound, Lauren’s family is killed and she is forced out into a world that is fraught with danger. With a handful of other refugees, Lauren must make her way north to safety, along the way conceiving a revolutionary idea that may mean salvation for all mankind.
