Easy Hike Sunday Sunset at Anne U White Trail

Details

Let's take a nice early evening stroll on an easy trail.

Anne U. White trail is a hidden gem, a non-summit shaded, easy trail, that crosses a small stream several times. It has birds, it may even be called romantic with many different plants and flowers, and even butterflies. It's a great hike for non-acclimated newbies or those that just want to go for a nice hike.

The Anne U. White Trail is named in memory of Anne Underwood White, a dedicated environmentalist, scientist and open space advocate, who donated 20 acres for the creation of this trail.

The Anne U. White Trail follows Four Mile Canyon Creek through a narrow canyon hemmed in by dense forest and steep rock walls. Ponderosa, fir, aspen, cottonwood, willow, and maple line this richly appointed riparian corridor. A leafy understory yields a diverse collection of summer wildflowers and brilliant autumn colors.

Perennial water, flowers, abundant natural edibles and shelter attract an array of wildlife including hummingbirds, deer, fox, coyote, bobcat, bear and mountain lion. This gentle trail welcomes individuals of all abilities, families, dogs, trail runners and winter recreation.

The trail heads west from the parking area and quickly joins the creek, rising nominally to the first of several easy crossings (.55 miles : 6,165'). The trail negotiates quick intervals of thick timber, narrow passages and small hillside clearings to a 5' cascade that drops into a shallow pool (1.35 miles : 6,418').

For those who want to rendezvous and carpool/caravan up meet me at 6:15 pm at the Four Mile Creek Parking lot, 593 Lee Hill Drive, Boulder, CO 80302. From Broadway turn left on Lee Hill Road, it's on the left. Parking is limited at trailhead, so if your driving up get there a little early

Or you can meet us at the trailhead. From Boulder, take Broadway north to Lee Hill Road. Turn left (west) onto Lee Hill Road and continue for 1.1 miles to Wagonwheel Gap road. Turn left and continue for exactly 1 mile to a dirt road on your left. Travel 0.2 miles to the Anne U. White Trailhead and parking area (on your right).
