What we’re about
Hi, welcome to Colorado Spiritual Book Club & Meditation. This book club will be reading books from two categories: traditional spiritual paths and New Age exploration. The traditional books will feature the best authors from Advaita Hinduism, Zen Buddhism, Sufism, Christian biographies, and the like, including authors like Thich Nhat Hanh, Amma, Gina Lake, Yogananda and Rumi, as translated by Nader Khalili. The New Age books will explore topics like past life hypnosis, near death experiences, channeling, and remote viewing and will include authors like Dolores Cannon, Brian Weiss, Anita Moorjani, Robert Schwartz, Darryl Anka, and John Vivanco.
Check out the photo section of the group to see the book and meetings schedule for 2025. For the first date for each book, you should be halfway done reading. By the second date, finish the book. We will be reading one book per month. For odd-numbered months, we will read books from the traditional spiritual paths category. For even-numbered months, we will read books from the New Age exploration category.
All ages, levels, and cultural backgrounds are welcome to try out the group, including total beginners to spiritual topics. The intent of this group is two-fold: to encourage each other to be focused and spiritually disciplined on our journeys through life but also to have casual, fun discussions while hanging out at meetings.
As for myself, the organizer, my spiritual journey began in New York City with a Chan (Chinese Zen) center in Queens. I would go there mid-week for a meditation class that was followed by a book discussion and again on the weekend for a dharma talk and lunch. I then began exploring other religions. My personal belief is that spirituality should be approached like a jigsaw puzzle in which each spiritual path or religion provides a missing piece of the puzzle. The trick is to find the best teachers and lessons from each path. In regard to New Age topics, I have, likewise, looked for the country's best teachers and done classes in past life hypnosis, channeling, and remote viewing.
Eventually, the group meeting will start with a one-hour meditation followed by a casual discussion of the book we are reading. But, for the time being, we will just start with the discussion until a more suitable place is found for the meetup. I will be sending out group emails with info and schedules.
For January and February I had decided to read two books at once. We will switch to one book per month starting in March. The first two books the group will be reading are "Living Buddha, Living Christ" by Thich Nhat Hanh and "Same Soul, Many Bodies" by Dr. Brian Weiss. Thich Nhat Hanh is the second most famous Buddhist writer of our era after the Dalai Lama, and psychiatrist Brian Weiss is one of the three most famous authors on past life hypnosis.
Don't be afraid to ask me questions, and I look forward to you helping me to start a great book club here in our part of Colorado.
