Details

For Saturday we'll be heading to Joder Ranch Trailhead (off highway 36 a few miles north of Boulder).

WARNING: Please read the details carefully. If you are new to trail running or not up to this level yet, please consider joining another day.

ROUTE
From the trailhead, we'll run the 2 miles to Old Stage Road, then head over to Buckingham Park. From there we'll head up and into the Lefthand OHV area and trail system. Overall, our route is a lollipop loop with total distance just under 14 miles and gain around 4800 ft. Plan fuel and fluid requirements for around 4-5 hours.

Yes, these numbers are for real! Some refer to this route as worshiping at the Church of Vert, or entering the Vert Locker. Both are appropriate. Summer is approaching fast, and we need to be ready, so let's establish a baseline.

If you want to join but are looking for a shorter option, there are a few.

  1. Half the elevation gain: For this option you will join us to the start of the loop in our lollipop. As we head clockwise, you can head counter-clockwise for as far as you want to go, then head back for an out/back route. You'll skip one of the major climbs.
  2. Shorter distance and little gain: If you just do an out/back to Buckingham Park you'll get around 5ish miles and little gain.
  3. There are other options if you want to get creative. Reach out if you want other ideas.

LOCATION
Meeting at the trailhead at 7:30a. The trailhead parking lot is not big, so plan to arrive a little early. Overflow parking is across the road from the trailhead entrance. So, ultimately there is plenty of parking. No formal carpool spot, so if you need a ride, please coordinate on your own, or put a request in the comments.

The trailhead is a few miles north of Boulder off the west side of highway 36 by Neva Road - Google Maps Link.

CONSIDERATIONS
Dogs are allowed, if leashed.
