During the winter, the gate to the Brainard Lake Recreation Area is closed. Visitors must park at the winter parking lot just outside the gate. Due to this winter closure, this trail is often used as a snowshoe route. This trail starts outside of the gate, so visitors to not have to pay the entry fee if they start at this trailhead.
Please bring spikes and snowshoes to be prepered for either option. If a trail is not cut we can take turns cutting it. If you read reviews the day before that people have done the trail with spikes only, just come with spikes! Be prepared for wind so dress accordingly. Pack snacks and/or a lunch for our break stop.
