Deer Mountain Hike in RMNP
Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, Xxxx,, Estes Park, CO, USExplore Deer Mountain Trail | AllTrails
6 miles and 1400 ft elevation gain - rated moderateLet's meet at 7:15 am at the Beaver Meadows Visitor Center just outside the ranger entrance. We will NOT need timed entry passes since it is before 9 am and not on Bear Lake Rd but will need people with America the Beautiful Passes. Parking is on the street @ the trailhead, so we will want to carpool from visitor center.
I am limiting the numbers until we secure people with passes who are willing to drive into the park. Please put your name on the waitlist and I will add to the "Go" list as we get drivers! Please comment if you are willing to drive from Beaver Meadows and have a pass.
Deer Mountain Peak offers panoramic views and is just outside of Estes Park. Unlike many of the park's summits, it sits on the edge of the park and is not deep in the wilderness. It is also not as tall as many of the park's alpine summits. This peak is easily underestimated, but it still stops at 10,000 feet. The trail can be accessed at the Deer Mountain Trailhead off of Trail Ridge Road. The trail starts off in a valley and soon enters a steep forested area, dominated by beautiful ponderosa pines. Once you enter the forested area, the trail follows many switchbacks that climb toward the summit. Once at the Deer Mountain summit, you are rewarded with gorgeous views of Longs Peak, Moraine Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, and Estes Park. This is one of the many popular hiking trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. There is limited parking in the area, so it is advised to get there early to secure a spot.
