Red Rocks and Morrison Slide extended loop - 4.4 miles and 940 ft EG
Details
Weather permitting
This is a great hike with gorgeous scenery and beautiful views. We will take the Red Rocks trail first uphill and then down to Matthews/Winters Park. From there the Cherry Gulch trail leads up to a ridge with stunning views of the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Hogback Ridge and plains. After a break, we will follow the Morrison Slide trail back to our cars. The trails are mostly rocky and without shade.
If there is interest, we could explore the close-by Dinosaur Ridge after the hike. https://dinoridge.org/visit-dinosaur-ridge/dinosaur-ridge-trail/
The Dinosaur Ridge Trail is a paved section of West Alameda Parkway. It provides free access to the site of more than 300 fossil tracks and dinosaur bones and is open to pedestrians, bicyclists, and hikers. It's the #1 dinosaur tracksite in America!
Please bring layers, sun protection, water and a snack.
The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of parking along the road.
