Starting at 6pm, our beginner's track will feature a talk by Andrew Watkins titled "Ruby hashes, FTW!".

The food and beverages will arrive by 6:30pm where you can eat, drink and mingle with your fellow Rubyists for 45 minutes while the rest of the crowd arrives.

Around 7:15pm we'll start presentations.

Our first talk will be from Nathan Wittmer from GitHub.

"Refactoring Systems with Confidence"

Over the last year and a half my team and I replaced a large subsystem in our application without (hardly) anyone noticing, and I'd be sharing that story, the tools and techniques we used, and what we learned along the way.

Our second talk will be from John Unruh.

With the client side of web applications becoming more involved, several javascript frameworks have sprung up to help simplify and organize the code. Some of the recent frameworks have extended the MVC pattern used in desktop and server side applications to the browser. Facebook took a different approach with their React framework, which uses an approach closer to functional programming. In this talk, I will show how the OM clojurescript library that wraps React supports a very functional approach to client side design. I will compare a JavaScript implementation of a simple front end to an OM/ClojureScript implementation, and explain why I found the OM version simpler to understand.
