The beginner's track will start at 6:00pm. At 7:15, we will start presentations.

Beginner's Track: Testing. Steve Witman and Jared Koumentis will kick us off and share how to start testing your code. We'll discuss TDD vs testing after design. Steve will show an example of using TDD to build out a FizzBuzz program, like you might see in an interview. Bring your questions and thoughts and we'll discuss them as a group. If you're wanting to start testing, please join us.

Main Presentations:

Full Text Search with PostgreSQL and pg_search

Description: Jared Koumentis will discuss his recent work leveraging Postgres' full text search and the pg_search gem. If you've ever wanted to build full text search into your app, but were unsure about bringing in external programs or libraries (such as Solr or Elasticsearch), you may be pleasantly surprised by the ease of use and capabilities of Posgtres.

Lightning Talks! The Gifts of Gems

For many people, the holidays represents a season of giving. The Ruby community at large has given us many gems to make our lives easier. Come and tell us about a gem that you've found that you really appreciate or that you find delightful! It could be an old favorite, or it could be something you hadn't heard of before you used it. Either way, come share your favorite gems!

We still have room for another talk or two, so if you've been thinking about giving one, reach out and let us know! We'll be happy to help you flesh out your talk and get it prepared.
