Bound to Downtown (Albany, NY) is a social group whose aim is to welcome and socially connect Downtown residents, neighbors, friends, and visitors. We're committed to exploring and experiencing Downtown, as well as sharing resources and information regarding living in Albany. There are no dues charged to join, only whatever costs required at a business for an event.

First Friday 🎉 at the Albany Institute of History & Art
Albany Institute of History and Art, 125 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12210, Albany, NY, USEnjoy FREE admission to the Albany Institute of History & Art for First Friday! 🎉 In addition to free entry, there will be a special performance from Pulso de Barro 🎶 and a cash bar (read more about this cool band below).
We’ll meet in the lobby near the main entrance at 5:30 PM and hang out until it ends at 7:00 PM. If you’ve never been to the Institute, now is your chance to check it out. The newest exhibit, Mexico Masks/Rituals is now open, too.
The event starts at 5, so you can go earlier if you are able! After 7, folks who are interested may want to head over to Lark Street to check out other First Friday activities.

The name means “pulse of life” and that is precisely what this Kingston-based collective delivers: a ceremony-celebration rooted in Son Jarocho, the four-hundred-year-old music born at the collision of African Yoruba rhythms, Andalusian melody, and indigenous voices on the Gulf Coast of Veracruz.
Led by MarĂa Puente Flores and Mateo Cano, Pulso de Barro plays jarana, requinto, leona, quijada, tarima, maracas, and marimba . Every fandango they play is both a concert and a commons: it is a space where people feel how music and dance can aid in the process of collective liberation.
