What is it like to be a Bat? An Introduction to Bats of Arizona and What Makes Bats so Cool
There’s so much to love and learn about bats, which, at more than 1450 species, make up nearly a quarter of the world’s mammals! Arizona is home to 29 species. Our incredible diversity includes three nectar bats, four tree-foliage roosting species, a black and white bat with long pink ears, a scorpion-eating bat, as well as the largest and smallest (U.S.) bat species. We’ll explore what it’s like to be a bat by looking at the life history of some of Arizona’s most charismatic species and take a deep dive into what makes echolocation such an amazing superpower.Cost:

The Sonoran Desert: A Global Bee Diversity Hotspot
With over 21,000 species globally, bees can be difficult to study, and our taxonomic knowledge concerning them continues to grow. The Tucson Bee Collaborative works to use DNA sequencing in conjunction with traditional museum collections to establish baselines for bee biodiversity in southern Arizona. So far, nearly 450 bee species have been found in the Tucson Basin alone, and almost 800 for all of southern AZ. Here we’ll discuss the origins of bees, their biogeography, and what makes the Sonoran Desert a top contender for being a global bee diversity hotspot.Cost:

Boyce Thompson Arboretum, 37615 U.S. Hwy 60, Superior, AZ, USPreregistration is required and limited to 30 guests. Register Here!
Desert Roses: Women of Pinal County
A desert rose is a beautiful, hard mineral that rises from within the earth to ‘bloom‘ in a harsh environment. This is a good metaphor for the women who came to Pinal County and rose above their circumstance to affect their communities, preserve the histories, and influence generations to come. This presentation presents both the well-known and the unsung women who left their mark on Pinal County. Featured are pioneers, Native American women, authors, educators, women in the military, entrepreneurs and a few criminal women who left their marks as well.Cost:
