About This Group:
This group discusses God, faith, the Bible and everything in-between over food and drinks at a local brewery. It's casual and intended for anyone, whether you're non-religious, skeptical, or already have faith. Every week we order food and drinks, pass out a topic with questions and talk about our thoughts together. No sermons, no music, just good beer and conversation!
You choose your path: We often have multiple discussion tables going and we let each table decide between a few topics. Want to talk about whether or not God exists? You can do it! More interested in analyzing a chapter of the Bible and trying to figure out what it means? You can do it! We stay flexible so you can explore in the way that best fits you.
Here's a list of topics we've discussed at our group:
- Does God Exist?
- Interpreting the book of Mark using the original ancient context
- Spiritual themes from Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy
- Spiritual Themes from The Avengers movies
- Ghost stories in the Bible!
- Parables of Jesus
- Coming Soon: Metaphors and symbolism in Genesis
Our Approach To Investigating The Bible:
When we investigate passages in the Bible, we try to approach it in a totally different way. We dig up cultural context and historical background to help us figure out how the original authors of the Bible thought. Then we use that context to try to figure out what a passage means together, like solving a puzzle as a group. This approach is fun because we sometimes discover that the original meaning of a passage might be different than what we originally thought. Maybe it even has a deeper meaning that was partially lost. Our group enjoys digging up the "weird stuff" in the Bible too!
We don't favor any particular denomination or view, but instead just try to figure out what the original authors of the Bible believed. This approach gives everyone the freedom to share their opinions and make up their own mind.
Join us at Pour House in downtown Wichita every Tuesday! Upstairs from 7-9 PM. 711 E Douglas Ste 105, Wichita, KS 67202
